How do I know whether starting therapy would be helpful?
We understand that when you’re struggling and/or experiencing difficulties, it can be challenging to know where to begin or what next step to take. Given the variety of interventions and resources available, you may feel uncertain about whether to begin with therapy, a formal evaluation, a medication consultation, or any number of other options. We want to be as helpful as we can in determining what approach and which resources best suit you and/or your family’s needs. Calling or emailing our office may help you gain clarity about your options and get closer to the resources you’re seeking, whether these resources be within or outside of our practice, or both. We welcome you to reach out to us; we look forward to learning more about your needs and discussing how we might be helpful.

Do you provide evaluation/testing services?
In some circumstances, procuring a formal evaluation (e.g., one-on-one testing administered by a clinical psychologist across 6-8 hours) can be helpful to gain diagnostic clarity and guide treatment recommendations. At this time, Therapy Dallas does not offer evaluation services, though we are happy to recommend and collaborate with skilled psychologists in the community who specialize in doing so. In the event you are uncertain about the need for a formal evaluation and/or the various types of evaluations available, we welcome you to schedule an initial consultation during which you and your therapist can discuss your needs and questions.

How do I get started with therapy?
Once you’ve decided you’d like to begin therapy, schedule an initial appointment with a therapist with whom you think you’d like to work. It’s helpful to use your initial session(s) as an opportunity to share your reasons for seeking therapy and to discuss whether you and the therapist anticipate you would work well together. With respect to your very first appointment:

  • For patients ages 17 and younger, we typically schedule the initial appointment for parents/caregivers only (i.e., child does not attend).

  • For patients 18 and older, we typically schedule the initial appointment directly with the patient.

For additional information and/or to schedule an initial appointment, we welcome you to call our office at 214-755-6119; our front desk is happy to answer any questions you may have and discuss specific scheduling options. After booking your initial appointment, we will send a confirmation email with all relevant information and paperwork pertaining to your first scheduled appointment.

Do you accept insurance?
At this time, we do not accept insurance and are thus considered out-of-network for any given insurance carrier. We will, however, provide you with monthly statements upon request. You may submit these statements to your insurance company in hopes of garnering reimbursement (which varies by carrier and policy).

What are your fees?
Our fees vary, depending on therapist and type of service. For detailed information, please contact our office.

How long does therapy last?
As you might imagine, this is a difficult question to answer! Moreover, different intervention types may have different expected durations. Duration of therapy often depends on a number of factors, including but not limited to: severity of presenting concern(s); frequency/duration of sessions; type of intervention utilized; coordination of collateral services (e.g., Parent Consultation, medication managements, etc.); patient motivation;  and relationship between the patient and therapist (and family members if applicable). We recognize the importance behind this questions as it pertains to hopes and expectation, and encourage you to discuss this question with your therapist.

Are you available evenings and/or weekends?
Our practice schedules appointments Monday through Friday during normal business hours. At this time, we do not offer weekend appointments. For scheduling options and therapist availability, please contact our office.

What is your cancellation policy?
We ask that you kindly provide notice of at least 48 hours if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment; otherwise, our office typically charges the full fee for your missed session. Of course, we welcome you to discuss with your therapist any questions or concerns you might have about a missed or late-cancelled session.
